How to repent
What does it mean to repent? The word repent means to turn away and to stop doing what you have been doing. By the end of this article, you will have a solid understanding on how to repent. The first step to repentance is conviction: you know you have done something wrong and you feel bad about it. This is a clear sign that God has not given up on you because most people sin every day and feel no conviction at all. Feeling bad about it is one thing, but taking action is another. Now the next step is to confess your sins to God and maybe someone you trust. When you confess to other people, the chains of the addiction or habitual sin break off you. By bringing your shameful sin to the light, you will stop being ashamed, and you will start to feel empowered and encouraged. The devil wants you to stay in the darkness and to despair over what you have done. Don't fall for it!!! After you have confessed and prayed to God about it, the next step is to do something about it . You cant keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect something to change. The change you make has to be an inconvenience for you, as Jesus Christ said " If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out". Of course Jesus never want you to take that litterally, what he wanted you to understand is that, real repentance requires you to sacrifice your flesh, and this can be done by giving up the pleasures of the body. For example, you could give up bad music, social media and movies if that causes you to lust. Here is a summary 1) Conviction : Understand what you have done, and bring yourself to God as you are; don't try to change before you present yourself to God. 2) Confession: Confess to God AND also to someone you trust. Satan wants you to keep your sin in darkness, where it will lead to shame and despair. 3) Make a change : You cant keep doing the same thing, the same routine and expect to stop sinning, you need to make a drastic change, a change that will be an inconvenience for you. You need to crucify your flesh by giving up pleasures of the body which eventually lead to sin.
